Popis druhu

Oleander scale Aspidiotus nerii is an armoured scale insect developing on a wide range of woody plants, including Nerium, Olea europaea, Citrus, Hedera, Ficus and many ornamental trees and shrubs. It infests leaves, shoots, branches and fruits. Reproduction may be sexual or parthenogenetic, and the species produces several generations per year depending on climatic conditions. The mobile crawler stage enables dispersal to new plant parts or hosts. It is widely distributed across Europe, especially in warmer regions and in greenhouses. The intensity of infestation is usually not strong, but in favourable conditions the abundance may be high. Damage caused by sucking reduces assimilation capacity and may worsen the overall health condition of trees and shrubs. Dense infestations significantly reduce the aesthetic appearance of woody plants.
